Hoekom Seekoeie nie Hare het nie

Eendag het Haas langs die rivier gestap.
Seekoei was ook daar. Sy het geloop en die lekker groen gras geëet.
Seekoei het nie vir Haas gesien nie en het per ongeluk op Haas se voet getrap.
Haas het op Seekoei geskree: "Seekoei! Kan jy nie sien dat jy op my voet trap nie?"
Seekoei het verskoning gevra. "Ek is so jammer, Haas. Ek het jou nie gesien nie. Vergewe my asseblief!" Maar Haas wou niks hoor nie. "Jy het dit aspris gedoen!" het hy na Seekoei geroep. "Eendag sal jy hiervoor boet!"
Toe gaan soek Haas vir Vuur en sê: "Gaan brand vir Seekoei as sy uit die water kom om gras te eet. Sy het op my getrap!" Toe antwoord Vuur: "Dis geen probleem nie, Haas, my ou vriend. Ek sal so maak."
Seekoei het later weg van die rivier af gestaan en wei. Woesj! Meteens bars Vuur in vlamme uit. Die vlamme het Seekoei se pels begin brand.
Seekoei het gehuil en na die water toe gehardloop. Haar pels was heeltemal afgeskroei. "My hare het in die vuur gebrand!" het sy gehuil. "Al my hare is weg. My pragtige pels!"
Haas was baie bly dat Seekoei se pels gebrand het. Vandag nog bly seekoeie naby aan die water. Hulle is bang vir die vuur.
