Lihle and Lwandle are going to the library to study for exams.
-
Lihle is waiting outside. She calls her sister, “Hurry up, Lwandle!”
1
“I’m ready,” says Lwandle as she closes the front door.
-
“Why are you wearing those clothes? What’s wrong with you, are you sick?” asks Lihle.
2
“If the weather gets cold, I’ll be ready!” grins Lwandle.
-
Lihle responds, “It’s a warm day in Summer. You are dressed for the wrong season!”
3
As they walk, Lwandle says, “It’s early, yet the day is already warm.”
-
Lihle responds, “Yes, that’s why everyone is wearing Summer clothes!”
4
Lihle explains, “In Summer, the sun rises earlier and sets later than the other seasons.
-
There are more daylight hours. Temperatures are highest in Summer.”
5
“Don’t you remember anything we learned at school?” asks Lihle.
-
Lwandle thinks, then says, “Yes, in Summer we drink cooldrinks. I want a cooldrink!”
6
“In Summer, we wear light clothes. Some people use umbrellas for protection from the sun,” says Lihle.
-
“Slow down, I’m burning up!” complains Lwandle.
7
“Look at the people in the pool. Let’s go swimming, it’s too hot to study,” laughs Lwandle.
-
Lihle shakes her head at her sister.
8
“Guavas and litchis are my favourite summer fruits,” says Lihle, looking at the fruit stall.
-
“I’m thirsty,” puffs Lwandle. “I brought water,” smiles Lihle.
9
“This heat is too much! When does Summer end?” gasps Lwandle.
-
Lihle laughs, “Get used to it, Summer just started! Temperatures will continue to rise.”
